This was the wedding that almost wasn’t.
Let me back up about 6 months….
I had an upset and heart broken bride calling me and I could hear it in her voice, something was wrong.
“We are considering postponing the wedding for another year….the foundation under our house just crumbled..literally”
Well….that was a first for me, so we chatted a bit about what that looked like and we hung up the phone.
I was so sad for her because this was a circumstance beyond her control.
But within a few days she called me back and said that they decided to move forward and pray that everything would work out with the help of family.
Jump forward to one week before the wedding….
yet another unforeseen bummer…
…a hurricane named Joaquin…
and a slow moving front coming together the very weekend of her wedding
which was supposed to be outside on the North River, at the Kingston.
Danielle once again called me to say “be on stand by…we may have to cancel the wedding if the hurricane is a direct hit”
For goodness sakes…I thought could this get any worse for her?
Never say never…LOL.
The Thursday night before the wedding…I get a text at round 11pm.
“Can you call me”
I thought what in the world now…
…the hurricane had moved off shore only leaving us with this wet drinching cold front and we had dealt with rain before so no big deal…
…the bridal shop where she was supposed to get Tylers and the groomsmen’s tux from was “Closed for business” as in
Closed the doors…not open anymore….and she was not sure they would have their tux for their wedding.
Wait…keep reading it gets better.
I got on the horn ASAP and contacted my friend Angela from the Bridal Boutique of Gloucester to see if she could somehow help them.
As miracles would have it…she knew the gentleman who was supplying the tux for their wedding and although Danielle was not one of her brides
She was willing to jump in and help….and made a few calls to see who had the tuxes and see if she could get them.
Can I just pause right here and say how wonderful it is to be part of a network of professionals that want what is best for everyone on their wedding day
even if they are not their client. So thank you Angela for your kindness in helping them figure this out!
Well on Friday they had tuxes ….all but Tyler’s so once again it was a scramble..but once they found it they delivered it to them!
Although the shop had apparently closed they did not let this bride down. Thank YOU LORD.
The hurricane had moved out to sea, but the front was large, lingering and wet…and boy did it rain…and rain and rain.
the ground was so saturated and the flooding was so bad the river came right on up into the tent.
It was also toppling trees which brings me to the next OH MY GOSH moment.
After many conversations with my second photographer, we decided it was not safe for her to travel in this mess…from Ruther Glen.
Trees across roads..and flash floods in every directions.
Plan B was also not an option because it was to short of notice for my stand by photographers to make arrangements to go with me.
Sooooo. I looked at my husband and said…you are it…..He was driving me anyways in our big 4×4 just incase there was an issue with high water because my little
mustang didn’t stand a chance in high water and I HAD to get there come hell or high water. He had assisted me on many sessions before so he kinda knew what
to do but this was a do or die situation and he came through like a champ!
Thank you honey. We might just be the next husband and wife team after all. You also flip a mean veil. 🙂
I gave him a few instructions…where to stand…what to do with the camera and what to look for.
He did not do bad for his first wedding with me. I will note a few of his images later in the blog.
Despite the weather…and all the bumps in the road, we had a wedding at the beautiful
Kingston Plantation on the North River.
Danielle and Tyler
I LOVE LOVE LOVE how you rolled with ALL the punches and the whole time you did so with smiles on your faces ready for anything.
Here is your day…it was full of love, family and sunshine despite what Mother Nature handed us.
We had the cutest guest at the rehearsal…it was Tootsie Roll…the mini horse. She was there to see what all the fuss was about. So adorable…she thinks she’s a dog. LOL.
I arrived a couple of hours earlier than I was hired for because I was by myself essentially and wanted to be sure that I was able to get everything I normally get with a second photographer. My brides pay a lot for their wedding photography, because photography is important to them and if it’s important to them it’s important to me that we capture every detail. So I do what’s necessary when things are out of my control…I controlled what I could to make Danielle and Tyler feel at ease.
Your dress and your bouquet was simply amazing!!!! and that cathedral veil…be still my heart!
I love this editorial style shot of the dress with the clock showing the time. Probably my favorite photo of the details minus having the dress photographed with a Renoir 🙂
A quiet moment amidst the chaos of the day.
Danielle’s sister and MOH Jeannie had all of her girls jewelry custom made. They were so pretty and each unique and different.
I mean really….how “on time” is the name f that hair spray? LOL. We were wind blown for sure!
These two beauties….are identical in looks but their personalities are so different and fun!
It took Danielle 8 months of searching to find all the pins and brooches for her bouquet. It was simply amazing….and HEAVY.
This guy….I have only ever seen him in jeans…boots and a ball cap, but man you are pretty GQ there Mr. Tyler in a suit!
What a good lookin’ fun bunch of men!
The moment a girl slips into her wedding dress for the final time before she becomes a Mrs…it is so special and exciting for everyone.
This feeling…I know it well. One proud momma right here.
I love first looks…I don’t care if its, brides and grooms…brides and their daddy’s or their bridesmaids…there is just something special about them.
My über fabulous second shooter grabbed these…hence you seeing me in the back ground but that’s ok…He did great!
GREAT image babe! Look at the expression on Danielle’s mommas face priceless.
Funny story here…showing how the bride just rolled with everything….her veil was soaking wet from being dragged throughout the many puddles on the way to alter…and it got so heavy between water and bricks…it was pulled from her head on the way to the unity table…one of the groomsmen attempted to put it back in…then she said what the heck…and laughingly handed it off to another groomsman to hold on to…
After a third attempt to put the veil back on it stayed long enough to get back down the isle. Again my hubby partner took these.
Another great photo from my newbie second photographer.
I love how Tyler is looking at you here…I can only image he is thinking…”how beautiful is she…and she is mine..”
Again showing off his second shooter skills on the right. My view and his…LOVE it.
Everyone puddled jumping back down the isle…as the water was slowly coming up through the bricks…
Again beautiful editorial style images…Love love love.
They were done with all the formal photos for one day…they were on to fun ones.
Ahhhh…the rain was still gently falling off and on but it did not matter…I gave the bride a pair of my rain boots and we headed out for some portraits. It made for some beautiful soft light moments..
Pretty Light can come from anywhere….you just have to look for it…even if it’s from a ceiling fan.
Sporting my rain boots…I am always ready to support my brides however they need….even if it’s giving the shoes off my feet.
Man…rain and a few fall colors make everything so dreamy beautiful.
Mr. and Mrs. Dorsey!!!!!
This is the moment…where you get to melt into each others arms and exhale and soak up everything that just happened. All the emotions of the day spill out.
And it’s one of my favorite moments of the day.
Father – daughter dances and mother – son dances…make me cry…every…single…time.
This was an all night occurrence…sweeping water out the door…but even more important for this dude…who had to dance..and man he COULD Dance…and he wanted to take no chances on slipping in the water…
The CAKE…on a bird bath for the stand…LOVE this idea..so pretty and fitting for a peacock cake.
To smash or not to smash…that is the question…and that decision can change at the last minute…
Then you run.
Then take your lumps…
Let the dancing begin….
The toasts were extra special from Tyler’s and Danielle’s family with special memories of Tyler’s Dad.
The home baked goodies were amazing!!
This sparkler exit was quite funny….Danielle is getting pelted with sparkler sprinkles
The Kiss…and they are off!
Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Dorsey!!!
Danielle and Tyler it was my pleasure to tell your story love story with my camera….
Thank you to all the awesome venders who helped put smiles on everyones faces!
