Back yard weddings are near and dear to my heart, because my own wedding reception was held in my mothers back yard where I grew up. But when you have 10 acres a HUGE tent in a beautiful country location it’s more than just a back yard wedding…it’s a back yard extravaganza with a homey feel which I think is perfect for a modern vintage wedding. It’s the place you grew up…the place you call home so sometimes it’s the perfect location to start your new life with your beloved.
When Shaunee and Logan first approached me about their wedding and Shaunee told me it was going to have a modern vintage wedding feel…my heart just swooned. Because I love modern vintage anything….If you could see my house you would understand. I swear I was born in the wrong era, but I probably would not have appreciated it like I do now.
Shaunee’s and her mom Michelle spent almost an entire year gathering all of the mis-matched chairs, china, silverware, and glasses along with all of the wonderful details that made this wedding so perfect. It was the little things that made it so perfect. Some of the unique details that I fell in love with you will see in the photos. One in particular I thought was so cool was the guys boutonnieres….so clever!
Shaunee and Logan your day was perfect it was celebrated with close family and friends who love you very much! So lets relive it….all over again.
As I arrived at the rehearsal to meet everyone the sun was going down…and let me tell you there is something special about a sunset in the country.
It is uncluttered by things so you can see it’s true beauty and the one that showed up that night was nothing short of amazing! Wait for it…..keep going…it’s beautiful.
The mismatched chairs…I LOVED! I almost took a few home with me.
Rehearsal time…Who goes where? How do we walk in..is this right? and a ton of giggles and laughs! Priceless.
Bam…I told YOU…Gorgeous! The sky was on fire!
I don’t often get the opportunity to show up this early except when brides include me in their entire day…and this was fun! The girls at Mystique were amazing and talented!
The iron gate as her doorway was a perfect back drop for this gorgeous vintage style Oleg Cassini gown.
I loved every single little detail from the vintage silverware…plates and jewelry.
The grapevine chandelier was the perfect centerpiece to the tent…it got photographed a lot. 🙂
Getting ready at home in your mothers house in her bedroom is so sweet, personal and full of love and laughter…and nerves.
The sweetest little flower girl…
It was her first fancy dress…she looked in the mirror and said pretty….can we get an awwwww right here?
This was probably one of my favorite details..the guys boutonnieres vintage flower pins!
I also loved their hand made (each one different) invitations and save the date cards. Amazing personal detail!
The calm before the….getting in your dress to become Mrs…
The emotion of that moment when you slip on your dress is sometimes overwhelming.
Shaunee….oh my goodness you looked like a princess…
Your momma dressed you from the time you were born, in little girl clothes and pretty shoes…what a beautiful picture of her helping you into your wedding gown.
No longer a little girl, but a beautiful woman.
These two have a special bond….and the third one shows the real them.
Oh my…the two of you are so gorgeous…
I love first looks…I don’t care who it’s with…they are special and fun.
Your skin…is like peaches and cream…you are beautiful!
Meanwhile…the boys are getting ready at a different location…so I sent my second photographer to cover their shenanigans.
Man those leather suspenders were on point! I LOVED them.
Sharp dressed men…
The Modern Vintage boutnnieers for the guys! Perfect! So Chic! Love love love the idea.
With a few moments to spare before the ceremony starts I go and grab a few more details of the reception area.
Modified first look…they chose to pray together right before the ceremony…let me just say Shaunee was not the only one crying. It was BEAUTIFUL.
Ready…set…here we go.
They let anyone come to this wedding…LOL Love you Bob and Shawn.
That nervous waiting look. Logan LOL. not sure what you are thinking or who you were looking at…but this is priceless.
The sun was bright but not as bright as the beautiful shining bride on the arm of her father. The sun was pale in comparison.
I love capturing the moment their eyes lock…
I loved the idea of the bride and groom switching sides she was on the right he was on the left. That way her momma had a clear view of her daughter during the ceremony.
This was a beautiful unity moment…with a unity cross.
That official first for the happy couple…the KISS!
I don’t usually post family formals in my blog post…but this one…was to cute not to…siblings..how it really is. hehe.
This group of family and friends for the bridal party was so fun. And that little flower girl…I couldn’t get enough of her….nor could she get enough of the ring barer.
We did not have enough time to get any of the girls prior to the ceremony so we took just a few moments to capture their cuteness after..
I love when brides make sure enough time is built in after the ceremony to capture portraits..it’s so important.
Ummmm who gets a heart in a flipped veil? I do when you have a great veil whipper….Thanks Kristi.
When you live in the country and have chickens, dogs and cats…one is bound to show up and get in on the excitement.
Mr. and Mrs. Logan and Shaunee Self.
Wait…you need the hashtag #thenewselfies 🙂
The prayer before dinner.
They wanted sunset photos…and that’s exactly what we set out to do right after dinner. But first one with natural light…so pretty.
The same exact spot…two min later with creative lighting..you wanted sunset, we got sunset.
I swear it never disappoints out in the country.
Back for some reception fun…starting with toasts.
Ahhh first dances when they are to Nora Jones…Come away with me…I sang the entire song while shooting.
I don’t remember the name of the song that was chosen for the father daughter dance, all I know is that it made me cry. It was beautiful.
This cake…was AMAZING. Carrot Cake…and it was all about the cake and not heavy on the icing…PERFECT!
It was not a dance party until Brick House was played…and then it was a party! Jeff can dance!
We snuck away again for some night portraits and I think I may have found my new time to photograph details too…those shoes at night! Dazzling.
I am so thankful you guys made time for these…I just love them. Yes they take you away from your party for a little bit…but it’s so worth it.
Back to party the night away.
I love the Soul Train part of the night..so fun.
…and shenanigans behind the romance. LOL.
Once final slow dance before the night ends, the day goes by so quickly it’s nice to take a moment to breath it all in.
Off into their new lives…
And….to end the night a sparkler kiss…with a HEART! What a better way to end a beautiful day!
